After a day of experimenting with Backup's fully-functional and fascinating features, my conclusion, opinion - and honest suggestion - is that everybody skip the 15-day free trial period and whip out the charge card. The program opens with basically three features on the menu: Back-up, Restore, and My Back-Up Tasks. While this, at first, seemed rather ordinary, the look and design of the software made me want to snoop further. Once inside each feature, I was hooked. "Back-up" is not just about "back-up", and "Restore" is not just about "Restore". The unique, smart hooks attached to the functions of each feature are nothing less than absolutely essential for today's always-on-the-move power users.

East-Tec Backup 2007 is, of course, primarily a back-up tool. With East-Tec Backup, one can easily pick and choose specific documents and files to save, choose to save everything, or simply create a personal back-up of e-mails, pics, and even Internet settings, such as Favorites, for transport. The software not only allows back-up to any style media - USB sticks, CDs, floppys, and DVDs - but also to your chosen network or internet location as well. And, aside from the required user mouse clicks, the wizards for each feature will gladly do most of the work for you.

I chose to use a USB jump drive (flash drive) for my first attempt at back-up using East-Tec 2007. After opening a "New Back-up Task" from the main menu, wizard buttons guided me step-by-step through the choosing of files to back-up to the jump. If you make an error, or skip a step in the task process, a small window opens center screen to explain the problem and provide the solution. If a question should arise regarding the procedure, a simple click on the lower screen "Help" symbol will bring up all possible questions and answers to the particular task in process. Another click takes you immediately back to your task window at the exact point you left.



Any time throughout your Task, you may edit folders, cancel and restart, rename files, drag and drop, or change methods of back-up. An "Advanced View" button allows you to split the window, displaying your computer's files and folders in the bottom half and your back-up selections in the top half. It's a quick and easy way to double-check your work. Once you've chosen and named your back-up files, a mouse click shoots the info to your media source in mere seconds, and saves the newly named back-up in "My Back-up Tasks" for use at a later date.When, and if, you need or want to restore something, everything, a few things, or just one thing, your file is safe and sound in the Restore section. In addition, all back-ups - incremental or differential - can be scheduled to run automatically - at whatever time you choose, whatever day you choose. Tomorrow, next week, or next year.

Among the many added extras East-Tec Backup 2007 has to offer, I found the quick and easy Synch option to be the most powerful featured function. For people, like myself, who work on one or two Projects, using 2 - 3 different computers, each at separate locations, throughout the course of one day, the Synch feature in this software is an absolute dream. Located in "My Back-up Tasks", the Synch option allows me to go from home office to real office and back again, saving my work, and updating and synching the files with a simple mouse click at each stop along the way.

Say good-by to Yahoo briefcase! If I prefer, I can always pre-schedule the software clock to update all or just one of my files at the end of my day or at the end of my week. Or maybe next month.
